Milestone Achieved for Clean Power
September 2, 2016
Western Resource Advocates entered into a new agreement with Xcel Energy, the solar industry, consumer advocates, and state and local agencies that could pave the way for a carbon-free future in Colorado. If adopted, the agreement could set a precedent for other states to shift to more clean power.
If approved by the Public Utility Commission, the settlement would unlock new opportunities for low-income consumers to access solar power and create a new, voluntary product that would give consumers the choice of using 100% renewable sources for their electricity. In addition to many other advancements, the agreement improves net metering policy (the billing mechanism that credits solar and other renewable energy system owners for the electricity they add to the grid).
