Economic Development Week FAQ
April 30, 2018
The International Economic Development Council is promoting National Economic Development Week May 7th - 11th. This is an exciting opportunity to share information about what economic development is all about and the successes that we are having in the state of Wyoming. Here are some frequently asked questions about Economic Development Week and our answers to them:
When is National Economic Development week?
May 7th - 11th, 2018
What is the purpose of National Economic Development week?
This is an opportunity to educate the greater community about what economic development is and the impact it has on our region and state. We encourage the sharing of success stories and information about programs and services offered by local, regional and state economic development organizations!
What should we do to celebrate in our own community?
We recommend a plan that allows you to highlight current programs and activities, while celebrating successes. There is a toolkit available through the IEDC that provides a variety of ideas and resources. You can access it here.
Is WEDA doing anything for National Economic Development week?
Yes! We are encouraging economic developers to grab orange “That’s WY” flags and plant them at local businesses and projects that have benefited from economic development efforts. Take pictures in front of them and share on social media with #WYEconDevWeek #ThatsWY.
Next, post the picture on the WEDA Facebook page and share it with friends and community members. Prizes will be given out to two winners - the picture with the most likes and the picture with the most comments.
What else should we do?
Engage local officials within your community and ask them to proclaim an official Economic Development Week or day. Get them to talk about it in person and on social media so they can help spread the word about the fantastic activities happening within Wyoming.
We also suggest arming them with data-driven information about why economic development efforts are important and the impact they have made within your community. This is critical for earning their support.
Are any resources available to assist our organization?
Yes, the IEDC toolkit has templates and marketing materials that can be used to promote National Economic Development Week in your community. The team at WEDA is also hear to provide assistance or to make suggestions.
