Join Us on Giving Tuesday and Support Wyoming Charities
November 26, 2018
November 27th is Giving Tuesday, a day where people donate to the causes they are passionate about. We encourage you to spread the word so that we can all consider those in our community who may need our help and support, along with the charities that are standing in the gap to be there for those in need. November 27th is also an excellent time to recognize the important economic impact Wyoming non-profit agencies are making in our state. The Wyoming Charitable Nonprofit Sector:
- Employs 14,000 people (2015)
- There are 3,139 registered charitable nonprofits (2017)
- Non-profits had $1.09 billion in expenditures in 2013
Non-profits, like local businesses, will typically employ local people and spend their money within their community. That means that their economic impact is far greater on a dollar per dollar basis than that of national firms doing business in our state. As such, donations made on Giving Tuesday will not only support community members directly, it will also help to boost our local economies.
Support Organizations Making a Difference In Your Community
There are many charities in our community who are making a difference in the lives of children and the elderly or working to protect animals or our environment. Most depend on donations and volunteers to support their operations and ensure they can deliver on their mission. This Giving Tuesday, we encourage community members to learn more about local charities and nonprofits working in their backyard. Post about Giving Tuesday and encourage community members to talk about their favorite charities.
Reasons to Support Local Charities
Charities or nonprofits are an important part of our local and national economy. In fact, they represent 5 percent of our GDP. Nationally, non-profits create over 14 million jobs and pay around $635 billion in annual wages (McKeever, 2016). This is remarkable, but it is only part of the story.
In addition to creating jobs, local charities and non-profit organizations do a lot to support our quality of life. While not always realized in economic gains, their impact is felt in our strong sense of community. They help to make Wyoming a great place to live and raise a family. In fact, some communities, like Casper, have reported people moving to the area because of the quality of life that non-profits help to create.
Other benefits of supporting local charities include –
- Teaching children the importance of generosity
- Getting a tax deduction
- Giving feels good!
Celebrate Giving across Wyoming
By celebrating giving, we are also celebrating the power of our community members to bring about change. Every dollar donated to local charities on Giving Tuesday is money that is staying within our community and working to directly help our friends and neighbors. We encourage you to join others on November 27th by making a donation to your favorite charity or by spreading the word and encouraging others.
