2019 Economic Development Week is May 6 -11th: Prepare Now

The 2019 Economic Development Week is May 6 through the 11th. This is a week to celebrate the efforts being made to grow our economy and enhance the quality of life for residents throughout our great state.

Economic developers, community leaders, businesses and volunteers all have an important role to play in economic development. Throughout this week, we encourage WEDA members to spend time recognizing successes and celebrating their efforts.

Ways to celebrate Economic Development Week in 2019

Here are just a few ideas to try:

• Share posts on social media
• Make an announcement in your newsletter
• Put up flyers in local businesses
• Share a press release
• Host an event
• Give out awards

Why Economic Development Week is important

Economic Development Week was created by the International Economic Development Council. The IEDC created the week in 2016 to create awareness surrounding economic development programs and initiatives that create jobs and opportunities for individuals and businesses throughout the country. In the past three years, there have been campaigns in all 50 states - more than 450 campaigns total. Creating this awareness is important, especially since funds for economic development often come through federal and state grants and other funding mechanisms.

Economic Development Week in Wyoming is an opportunity to articulate the importance of economic development efforts, organized around those efforts and recognize the many people who helped to make them possible. Since the week garners national press and attention, organizations who promote their message using hashtags also have the opportunity to have their message viewed outside of their standard followers. #EDW2019
