Bomgaars Acts As Anchor For Growth In Washakie County
February 26, 2020
Worland, WY. A project that began in the late summer of 2017 came to fruition in early March 2019 as Bomgaars Worland opened their doors just east of Worland in Washakie County.
At the first meeting in August of 2017 Bomgaars had high hopes for success in Worland and began looking at potential sites with the assistance of the Washakie Development Association. The Bomgaars team liked what they saw and soon settled on a location and began negotiation with the landowner.
Through the process Washakie Development Association served as a single contact for a buffet of simple resources to help streamline the process. Access was coordinated with WYDOT and the neighboring landowner and the City of Worland stepped up big time to provide basic infrastructure to the chosen location.
A job fair was held in the WDA Office with over 100 applicants vying for approximately 20 positions some of which were part-time.
The construction finished with several local contractors being involved. Local hotels and eateries enjoyed doing business with the crews coming in to set the new store. In early March the store held a ribbon cutting and Grand Opening.
Rick Penkava, West General Operations Manager for Bomgaars commented, “LeAnn Baker and the WDA were an invaluable help in bringing Bomgaars to Worland. She helped in all aspects from setting up the initial meeting with the landowner, to hosting the Bomgaars job fair and helping set up catering for our stores opening night.”
The arrival of the new approximately 36,000 sq. ft store on a five acre parcel, came at perfect time when the Shopko Store was closing. The new Bomgaars store has helped fill a number of the gaps left by Shopko. Bomgaars now serves as another anchor store for Worland’s growth to the East edge of the community where other new lots are available.
Washakie County is thrilled to have Bomgaars in Worland! The project was a team effort with the City of Worland, Bomgaars, the Washakie Development Association and many other business entities in and around the Worland area.
