Advanced Carbon Products Innovation Center Will Help Stabilize Local Economy
March 6, 2020
Gillette, WY. ACPIC is a dedicated location for developing Advanced Carbon Products technology and businesses. The technology proven at the ACPIC will create a diverse economy with new businesses using Powder River Basin Coal as their raw material. These businesses will not experience the boom and bust cycle that our existing minerals industry is prone to, therefore helping stabilize the local economy. It will also place an additional demand for coal as a raw material which will help keep existing coal mines in operation and provide them with a more diverse customer base. Energy Capital Economic Development and the UW School of Energy Research had been approached by several Advanced Carbon Products businesses for information and assistance in developing their business and technology. The project received approval of a $1.5 million WBC BRC grant in 2016. ECED was then awarded a $1.5 million grant from the EDA. With all funding now in place, Energy Capital Economic Development is hopeful that the project will be completed by the end of 2020. This is a major step in creating Carbon Valley.
